Veteran’s Day Week 11 Picks

Ladies and Gentlemen –

It’s hard to believe that Thanksgiving is right around the corner….

It’s a time of the year to be Thankful

But it seems just like yesterday the college football season began

I guess it’s true what they say

“Time flies when you are Picking Upsets”

Enjoy….

thanksgivingcandles

Weekend Rewind….

Let’s get right to it, shall we?

(Please hold your applause and unbridled enthusiasm until the very end)

Last week Your Favorite College Football Prognosticator was a rather astounding 53 and 8 or 87%, while picking the “Upsets” of Texas Christian, Navy over Memphis, Clemson over the Florida State Rapists and Arkansas over the Foam Rubber Black Bear Rebels of Ole Miss.

Although those upsets pale in comparison to some upset Ole Miss Fans that actually called 911 at the end of the game with Arkansas to “report” that the Arkansas quarterback was “hurt” and to have him removed from the game.
(Yes, some Ole Miss fans “really” did do that)

EDITORS NOTE: I know I am still laughing about that myself

Thus far in this 2015 season The CFB Wizard is 556 and 106 or 84%

Now before you break into wild applause and begin cheering loudly, it’s important to note that Your Favorite College Football Prognosticator also has a social conscience.

I care deeply about issues confronting us today in America and throughout the world.
That’s why I support the following….

It’s matters, because they matter

Doc and Doc

Now you may all begin applauding wildly and screaming my name in unison.

Ok, stop you are embarrassing me….

Thank you

SOUTH GEORGIA FOOTBALL NEWS and VIEWS

Greetings From the Heart of SEC Country!!!

The Boys in Blue greeted the visiting Clinch County Cats of Homerville on Friday night and ended their season on a sour note as they fell to the Kittens by a 46-13 score. The Number 4 ranked Panthers came to South Third itching to take the 2A Region of Doom with a win but a loss earlier in the season to the Injuns of Ocilla sealed their fate as Irwin County beat Turner to take the crown. The Blue Clad Gladiators fell behind 30-0 at the half but managed to put 13 points on the board in the second half and avoid the shutout. It’s been an up and down season for Coach Burleson’s crew, with wins over Wheeler, Treutlan, and Wilcox. But we’ve yet to get over the hump and ascend to the upper echelon of the Region…. Yet. I have seen improvement every year and with that improvement we attract more kids for the team and the fan support continues to grow. These boys have represented our community well, and I’d like to say that I’m very proud of them and hope we continue to progress next year.

Up in Athens, a new week brought different results as the Homestanding Hounds took on the visiting Blue Cats of Lexington and enjoyed a 27-3 victory to get back on the winning track. Greyson Lambert was serviceable and Brice Ramsey gave him some relief but the Cow College relied on the legs of Sony Michel, Keith Marshal, and the rest of the stable to amass 300 yards on the ground. The defense was stifling on this day as they held the lifeless Kittens to less than 200 yards on the ground. Next up for the Dawgs is a visit to the Plains to take on the War Eagle for another edition of the Deep South’s Oldest Rivalry.

Over in Atlanta, the Trade School took a Saturday off after an embarrassing loss to the Cavs of Virginia. Coach Johnson now prepares the Wreck for a visit from the Gobbler’s of Blacksburg who will more than likely try to give retiring Head Coach Frank Beamer a positive sendoff as they finish out an Un-Hokielike season. This one is a toss-up, but if the Bees can find a little bit of a passing game, I think they’ll come out on the winning side of this game.

And the Birds of the ‘Boro also took a week off after a big win over Texas State the previous week made them bowl eligible for the first time in school history. These Blue Birds of Prey are prepping for a visit to Troy, Al. next win in yet another important conference matchup. The Eagles got a little help in their quest for a second conference championship from Arkansas State in the form of a 40-27 victory over the hated conference rival Mountain Men of App State on Thursday. Coach Willie Fritz’s Birds still control their own destiny but will still need a little unlikely help from Texas State, Louisiana-Monroe, or New Mexico State, 3 teams at or near the bottom of the Sun Belt, in order to win the conference for a 2nd straight year.

Things I think:

Georgia – Winning cures a lot of ills. Enjoy this one and keep plugging away

LSU – Tough loss in a big game. The lack of a passing game hurt.

Bama – Hard fought win in a big game. Holding Fournette to only 31 yards seemed unthinkable.

Florida – Coach McElwain is probably right. Sometimes you have these games. But this won’t help your case at all when the CFB Committee looks at this game

Vandy – Tough loss guys. D is okay but the offense definitely has holes. Hopefully the recruiting trail will yield some positive results

Arkansas – One of the luckiest, craziest plays I’ve ever seen. But a “W” is a “W”, right? Oh, and I thought you were a running team. Allen had some crazy stats on this day.

Ole Miss – Don’t know what to make of this one. The Land Sharks were fileted in this game

South Carolina – If this isn’t a classic example of snatching defeat from the jaws of victory, I don’t know what is

Clemson – Looks like these Cats are the new Big Dogs of the ACC

The Polls – It didn’t take the AP and Coach’s Polls long to fall in line with the CFB Committee rankings last week. That’s why I don’t get real excited about what they’re doing before the “real” rankings come out

The CFB Committee Rankings –
I’m good with #1 through #3. But Notre Dame at #4? That one is a little suspect to me

College Football Wizard readers – Last week was more than abysmal for me. Just after the latest edition of the CFB Wizard went out, I was contacted by the Grand Master himself and informed that I had made a couple of egregious errors in writing that Georgia was facing Auburn this week and that Vandy had played Texas Tech last week.

I never thought that something I wrote would blow up because, well, I figured the Wizard is the star of the show and I was just a nice distraction. I know that it may sound like excuses, but I’ll tell you the truth. The combination of being somewhat consumed with the situation in Athens and the cocktails consumed during the Cocktail Party proved to be my undoing. Getting up on Sunday morning and trying to coherently write with a cloudy head is not a recipe for writing an articulate or accurate column.

I didn’t really realize the state of my “morning after” until I got to church and started getting funny looks from the rest of the congregation. To you, the CFB Wizard readers, I apologize for not getting it right the first time. And to the Wizard, I apologize for the “pain” and inconvenience of having to deal with the blow back.

Well, That’s it for now. Hope everyone’s team wins and you have a great week.

And remember; make sure you support your local High School Athletics.
These are your future collegians of tomorrow.

Until next time,
I’m Harley Hanesworth

ZIPPY THE PINHEADS 21-17

Purdue at Northwestern
These Big Ten (or something) Conference rivalries are awesome, aren’t they?

The newest movie will be entitled “Viva La Rascadango!”
It will be out this Christmas, be sure and check your local Spanish Cinema for times and listings
GOLDEN GNOMES 34-10

Tulsa at Cincinnati
Even I can’t generate any excitement for this game

Tusculum at Carson- Newman
I cannot in good conscience pull for any team whose college…..

Brigham Young at Missouri
After all that I read this week..
Frankly, the Cougars can’t score enough points in this game to satisfy me
COUGARS 141-3

Minnesota at Iowa
This Big Ten (or whatever it is this week) Conference rivalry…

 Next Week….

Your Week 12 College Football Picks will out early again next week, as you might have guessed…..Why? Because I care

Speaking of “caring”, next week Your Favorite College Football Prognosticator was “chosen” to undergo a brief “experiment” so to speak, while writing your weekly picks for a group called “People Who Are Against Everything Fun” or PWAAEF”.

I don’t have all the details yet, but it should be interesting

So stay tuned

One More Thing….

If you have the time and the freedom to do so I encourage you to read this week’s earlier article in Honor of the Marine Corps Birthday and Veteran’s Day.

There is also an article on mikerights.com in Honor of Veteran’s Day as well.

“Time and Freedom”

Those are two beautiful words, aren’t they?

Thank a Veteran that you have both

You are Welcome America
